Staten Island D.A. Turns to Shame to Halt Drunk Driving

drunkdriver.jpg
It's the magical holiday season, and you know what that means: drunk driving crackdowns! On Staten Island, D.A. Daniel Donovan hopes to scare the many hard-drinking readers of the Staten Island Advance by running mug shots of some guys his office sent away for DUI. "These three drunk drivers, who endangered countless lives by their selfish decision to get behind the wheel drunk," writes Donovan, "will definitely not be 'home for the holidays.'"

This is very similar to Donovan's plan during the last holiday season to deter shoplifters by posting their pictures at a shopping mall. Apparently shame is a popular crime-fighting strategy on Staten Island, which may be why many of their most famous apprehended criminals are so damned entertaining.
