Video: Bike Polo in Sara D. Roosevelt Park

Categories: Cycling

NYC The Blog finds something we hadn't noticed: Bike Polo in Sara D. Roosevelt Park downtown. There's a U.S. Bicycle Polo Association, which claims the game's a hundred years old, but they seem to play on grass; Wikipedia traces "Hardcourt Bike Polo" to "early 2000s Seattle" and links to a "malletcam" video. The Park polo players' site is here. Apparently the game is sufficiently popular that the Chattanooga Parks and Recreation Department encourages matches, but the Kansas State Collegian reports that local teams are having trouble getting authorization to play in a city park. So bike polo's not losing its edge yet. NYC Bike Polo has pick-up games tonight in their patch of Sara D. Roosevelt, aka The Pit, at 5 p.m.
