E&P had merged with other pub-business magazines over the years and remained well-regarded, and Kirkus blurbs still grace new books, but Nielsen couldn't unload them in its recent fire sale of properties. (Adweek, Brandweek, Mediaweek, The Clio Awards ad prize franchise, Backstage, Billboard, Film Journal International and The Hollywood Reporter were all picked up by a joint venture called e5 Global Media Holdings, LLC.)
In another ominous sign for the beleaguered industry, the American Journalism Review is going from bimonthly to quarterly.
"If the media industry is the sinking Titanic," says Joshua Kagi, "E&P going under must be the part where the ship breaks in two."
