Shopping spree: Shoppers ducked for cover as bullets flew between a vendor and cops in Times Square yesterday.

In Thursday's bizarre Times Square shootout that sent shoppers ducking for cover CD hawker Raymond Martinez was still strong enough to fight with cops while pinned down and suffering a mortal wound, the Post and Daily News say, based on witness accounts.

Before he died, cops had to pin him down and struggle to wrest a gun from him, according to witnesses.

Martinez was spotted by cops as a bad guy and was approached by a sergeant who tried to bust him, the NYPD says. After a chase, the shooting started at the Marriott Marquis on Broadway. Daily News story and photos here.
