De Blasio, Others Subpoenaed on WFP; "ACORNing" Suspected
Remember when Randy Mastro and some Staten Island voters sued because they said Data and Field Services had willfully undercharged Working Families Party candidate Debi Rose, and thereby injured the voters' rights? WFP's now getting more heat of a similar nature.
Federal prosecutors have subpoenaed a bunch of people, including incoming Public Advocate (and WFP nominee) Bill de Blasio (pictured), councilman-elect Daniel Dromm, and unsuccessful council candidate Lynn Schulman, regarding their dealings with WFP and DFS.
WFP's Dan Cantor says he and the party "welcome the inquiry," but it can't be too welcome. Capitol Confidential ominously refers to "the ACORNing of the WFP," suggesting its conservative enemies will cudgel it as ACORN has been cudgeled for propaganda effect.
Meanwhile the Party's former Suffolk County chairman Chuck Pohanka has announced that he will run for state Party chair to "put the party back in a healthy direction... to open up the books for everyone to see, just like every other party..." Pohanka had previously sued WFP over endorsement rights.
Mastro's separate case goes to trial in January.
