Somebody Got Murdered: Four Dead in Rough Pre-Holiday Weekend
On the weekend before Christmas, amid a record snowfall, the city saw four people killed in separate incidents, including a wheelchair-bound man allegedly stabbed to death in an East Village homeless shelter by another man in a wheelchair.
On Friday, at 11:30 p.m. in 274 West 140th Street, the police found a man, 28, shot in the neck. He was declared dead at the scene. His identity has yet to be released.
On Saturday at 4:20 a.m., the police responded to 270 East 2nd St. [pictured above] in the East Village, a homeless shelter run by Barrier Free Living. They found 24--year-old Ronal Garcia stabbed numerous times. Cops arrested Felipe Rivera-Cruz, 51, alleging he stabbed Garcia four times in the chest, causing Garcia to fall from his chair. Once Garcia was on the ground, Cruz stabbed him at least a dozen more times, according to the Daily News.
Shortly after the Garcia homicide, the police reached the scene of another stabbing, this time in Queens, at the intersection of Springfield Blvd and Colfax Street. They found a 22-year-old man stabbed in the chest. He was taken to Franklin General Hospital where he was declared dead.
The spate of murders ended on Sunday, which the police found Jesus Vega, 28, of Gleason Avenue in the Bronx, who had been shot. The incident took place at 2155 Gleason Avenue at about 6:30 p.m. Vega was taken to Jacobi Medical Center where he was declared dead.
