Staten Island Provides Yuletide Suicide-Attempt Story

kingstreet.jpg
Here's a holiday perennial we expected would come around eventually: the Christmas suicide. Fortunately the victim has in this case survived.

Christopher Lombardo, 47, of Staten Island set himself on fire at his home at 222 King Street yesterday, but then thought better of it, ran outside and rolled in the snow. He's badly burned on his hands, arms and back, but is at Staten Island University Hospital and is expected to make it.

Neighbors and police say he was upset about losing a job, but none of them seems to know what that job might have been. He has a wife and kid and owns the house, which property has an assessed market value of $446,000 -- hard to sell in this market, and hard to pay taxes on when you're out of work.
