A worker told the Staten Island Advance that the gasoline smell was very strong, whereas the plant "typically smells like fecal matter" (not a direct quote from the worker).
The men were lucky to get out with their lives. Last June three workers at a garbage recycling facility in Queens were killed by toxic fumes.
