Conservatives Celebrate MLK's Republican Heritage

Categories: Featured, Holidays
kingmug.jpgAs we close out MLK Day for the year, let us not forget what he was really fighting for: the Republican Party, and small government. King was a registered Republican, which prompts a dizzying peroration by the blogprof, who scorns the Democratic Party for supporting the Confederacy in the Civil War, inventing the Klan, and saying unkind things about King. Thank God Barry Goldwater was elected President in 1964, so we could finally get the Civil Rights Act.

Sarah Palin paid tribute to the fallen civil rights leader thus: "He fought for liberty and equality because he knew they were God-given and he knew that no government should be empowered to thwart our freedom."

Among other things, King fought to the end of his life for a government guaranteed income. "It must be pegged to the median income of society, not the lowest levels of income," the Doctor prescribed, and "it must automatically increase as the total social income grows... If periodic reviews disclose that the whole national income has risen, then the guaranteed income would have to be adjusted upward by the same percentage."

Sounds like socialism to us, but we're sure King would still be welcome in the modern Republican Party if he hadn't been shot by Lee Harvey Oswald.
