"Miracle on the Hudson" tribute plane forced down in Staten Island landfill

A small plane which buzzed yesterday's Flight 1549 anniversary celebration to helpfully remind survivors about the ever-present threat of eternal damnation blew a cylinder and was forced to land in the Fresh Kills landfill on Staten Island. The 2-seater Piper Cub was towing a 4,000 square foot banner which read ""If you died today, would you go to heaven or hell? John 14:6."

The plane, which is owned by a Pennsylvania company, was flying for a client of a Florida company called Air Sign, Inc. Jaime Saint of Air Sign told the AP that the banner was meant to remind survivors and other people who were out in the cold celebrating the mass near-death experience to think about life. "So many people are focused on the miracle today, and the banner is just to make people everywhere think about how they're living their lives."

The pilot ditched the banner on the way down. It was retrieved from some trees after a number of hours edifying passing cars on the West Shore Expressway.
