Suspect Arrested in Bensonhurst Fire That Killed 5

fireimage.jpg
On Saturday a horrible fire in Bensonhurst killed five people. Today police questioned and then arrested Daniel Ignacio, a resident of the building, who is thought to have set fire to a baby carriage in the stairwell, starting the blaze. He is reported to have been drunk at the time, and all through the rest of weekend in remorse; he is also said to have assisted in the rescue attempts after the fire started.

The peculiar firestarting is said to have been in response to a dispute with a fellow tenant. The five victims were all Guatemalan immigrants, who have increasingly settled in the area, including a mother who died saving her two children; one baby girl remains in hospitalized after being tossed from a third-story window. The death toll is the highest in a city fire since 2007.
