• Science is about relevant predictions, not about "explanations". Explanations are mythologies, "correct" or not depending on the listener's semantic profile. The claim that the SA provides the ultimate theory has been quietly dropped over the past few years, due also to the solar neutrino debacle, but the current results at CERN indicate another major and unexpected predictive failure of the SA, far below the threshold where it was expected to run out of steam. On the other hand an ill-posed problem is perfect to justify never-ending costly experiments, providing thousand of jobs for the boys.

• Your comment makes no sense. I think the question of whether or not we have the correct explanation for the phenomenon of mass is "fundamental". Just saying.

• Pal, there is nothing fundamental about the questions being asked at CERN. It is just a costly lab phenomenology, good at providing jobs for the boys. Just to give an example, in his Nobel lecture Davis wrote:"the standard solar model has ended in a spectacular way: nothing was wrong with the experiments or the theory; something was wrong with the neutrinos,in the sense that they behave in ways beyond the standard model of particle physics". As soon as the "standard model" got tested outside its CERN turf it had to be messily patched up. That's going to continnue as long as taxpayers are willing to foot the bill for CERN threading water in ever larger pools.
