President Obama Saves the Patriot Act! Re-ups for Another Year

The Patriot Act was supposed to expire on Sunday. But don't worry, folks: President Obama signed the reauthorization that was sent to him by Congress last week, so it's still in effect for another year. That means roving wiretaps, records seizure, and "lone wolf" surveillance are good to go!

In other freedom news, Democrats tried last week to put a provision into an intelligence bill that would hold CIA operatives liable for use of "enhanced" (torture-lite) techniques of War on Terror (excuse us, Overseas Contingency Operation) detainees, but Republicans gave them a hard time so they withdrew it.
