Theodore Kurplewski, Alleged Queens Chalice Thief, Arrested

helenchalice.jpg20-year-old Theodore Kurplewski of 156th Avenue in Queens lives just a few blocks from St. Helen's Church, from which, police believe, he stole a chalice last month. Kurplewski is alleged to have broken into the sacristy of the church and swiped the ceremonial cup. (Reports say two chalices were stolen; one worth $1,000, another, an ordination gift to Reverend Robert Keighron, worth $10,000, which has reportedly been recovered. The $10,000 chalice would have been a hard sell in any case, as it has Keighron's name on it. )

Kurplewski is charged with burglary, possession of stolen property, and criminal mischief.
