Police Seeking Information in Fatal Stabbing of Homeless Man

On Sunday, April 18, at 7:21 a.m., police responded to a 911 call at 88th Road and 144th St. in Jamaica. Upon arrival, police discovered a hispanic male, 30-35, with multiple stab wounds to the chest. EMS responded and pronounced him DOA.

Investigators have now identified the victim as Hugo Alfredo Tale-Yax, 31, who is homeless. They believe he was attempting to help a female who was being assaulted by the suspect at the location. The female was able to flee the location when the suspect stabbed the deceased multiple times in the torso.

The female is described as 5'3", thin build, wearing a 3/4-length jacket and a skirt.

The suspect is described as a male, 5'6", medium build, wearing a green short-sleeved shirt and dark pants with a green hat. He was last seen fleeing the location armed with a knife.
