Put down the shaker and no one gets hurt.
Just yesterday we all found out how much we really distrust the government. Today we learn, via the Washington Post, that the FDA is about to start ever-so-sneakily reducing our salt intake. Hm.

The Food and Drug Administration is planning an unprecedented effort to gradually reduce the salt consumed each day by Americans, saying that less sodium in everything from soup to nuts would prevent thousands of deaths from hypertension and heart disease.

The government plans to work with food and health experts to get us all used to a less salty diet, setting legal limits for salt in each of the food categories we consume. Not only that,

The changes would be calibrated so that consumers barely notice the modification.

The initiative is to be launched this year. Meanwhile, Mayor Bloomberg has been sneaking around trying to cut New Yorkers' sodium intake for more than a year now.

Is it any wonder we don't trust these people? I mean, really, what's next, making us wear seat belts?
