Coming This Weekend: Manhattanhenge!

Something special is happening this Sunday. Per Neil deGrasse Tyson, who coined the phrase "Manhattanhenge," what you're about to see if you stick around is "one of only two occasions when the Sun sets in exact alignment with the Manhattan grid, fully illuminating every single cross-street for the last 15 minutes of daylight."

Well, that's kinda cool. This coming Sunday, and, if you happen to be out of town, Monday, July 12, will give you a view with half the sun above and half the sun below the horizon. You'll also get "Manhattanhenge moments" on May 31 and July 11, where the full sun is above the grid -- which might even be cooler. (See above.)

Instructions are to arrive a half hour early, and go as far east in Manhattan as you can. When you look west across the avenues you'll want to see Jersey, so try the major cross streets, especially 34th and 42nd, for "striking vistas."

Sunday, May 30 & Monday, May 31 -- 8:17 P.M. EDT
Sunday, July 11 & Monday, July 12 -- 8:24 P.M. EDT

See you guys on 34th Street. If you get a great shot, send it our way!
