"The NYPD Tapes: Inside Bed-Stuy's 81st Precinct," chronicles hundreds of recorded hours of cops talking about their jobs between June 1, 2008, and October 31, 2009. Part 2 appears in this week's issue of the Voice.

Here's today's outtake:

From October 27, on the work habits of the precinct clerks, who are supposed to enter complaint reports into the computer system:

"A lot of times, they are in there sitting, doing puzzles, they're reading books, they are eating all the stuff," a sergeant notes.

Another sergeant agrees: "If you see them doing anything but what they're supposed to do, reading a book, and if they are taking a 61 and they are taking forever, engaging in an unnecessary conversation with the complainant or whatever, let us know."

Check back for more NYPD Tapes outtakes and follow-ups, like yesterday's "Cliffs Notes" synopsis of the articles.
