Awesomely Nerdy Spelling Bee Finals Remind Us How Relieved We Are to Be Adults

If you're just sitting at home tonight between 8 and 10 p.m., you're going to want to tune in to the Championship Finals of the Scripps National Spelling Bee, live on ABC. Why? Because it will be ... awkward. Cringe-inducing. Stressful! And awesome. Remember when you wore a retainer, waged an ongoing war with pimples, and prided yourself on knowing how to spell words that no one else in the entire world even knew existed? Whew, thank God that's over.

Ten remain from the 273 who began the week in the Most Dramatic Spelling Bee YET (hosted by Erin Andrews and Chris Harrison of Dancing With the Stars and The Bachelor/The Bachelorette).

Crowd faves Tim Ruiter, 13, of Centreville, Virginia, and Neetu Chandak, 14, of Seneca Falls, New York, are out, eliminated on "fustanella" and "paravane" (which, FYI, is a torpedo-shaped underwater protective device). Returning finalist Anamika Veeramani, 14, of North Royalton, Ohio, is still in after successfully spelling "osteomyelitis" and "mirin."

Who will get the rose? Our bet is on the lone Canadian (and youngest in the competition), Laura Newcombe, 11, of Toronto, who made it to the finals with "scrannel."
