BP's Tony Hayward Booted From the Gulf; Bob Dudley to Take Over

According to an interview today with Sky News, Tony Hayward has "has a new role" in dealing with the oil spill in the Gulf. Turns out, as a geologist, he was never going to be much good at PR, and so someone with the far more promising name of Bob Dudley (BP's managing director) will be taking over. This is all according to BP chairman Carl-Henric Svanberg, who it seems, never really liked Hayward much anyway, even though it took him 60 days to figure that out: According to Sky's Jeff Randall, "the most important aspect of Mr. Svanberg's interview was his lack of public support for the embattled chief executive."

Bob Dudley used to be president and chief executive of TNK-BP, Russia's third largest oil and gas company, so we can't wait to see what he'll bring to the table. As for Hayward's new role ... we're guessing, sitting at home in his p.j.s and updating his Facebook status? But, hey, he's got his life back!

No word on whether we're going to have to keep watching those grating commercials.
