Clues the Recession May Be Over: Old Wall Street Sign Sells for $116,500

In an ever so gentle indication that we -- meaning those of us who happen to partake of Christie's auctions -- may actually be on the mend from that whole nasty economy situation, the rather cool Wall Street sign we mentioned yesterday (the one hailing from the late 19th/early 20th century, potentially with real bomb scars), has sold for $116,500 today, reports Bloomberg.

A telephone bidder (it's always the telephone bidders!) ended up winning the sign, which is described by a rare books dealer as "a symbol of American finance," and had been estimated for presale for $60,000 to $80,000. Well, hooray for the seller, former Merrill Lynch trader turned writer of crime dramas Kevin Lessin, who got his own special little capitalist hug today. Though, of course, initially he'd wanted more.
