Southwest Airlines Employee Finds Box of Human Heads on Plane; Is Probably Going to Need Some Therapy
No, we are not kidding: A box reportedly filled with 40 to 60 human heads was discovered by an unwitting (and surely now nightmare-plagued) Southwest Airlines employee in Little Rock, Arkansas, last week. The problem with this is actually not with allowing human heads to fly -- presuming they're not on the no-fly list, it's perfectly fine (as long as you don't have to sit next to them) -- but that certain bureaucratic procedures were not fulfilled prior to the heads venturing off on their little journey.
"It wasn't labeled or packaged properly," Ashley Rogers, a Southwest spokeswoman, told NBC. "They called the local authorities."
These particular heads were on their way to a medical research firm, Medtronic, in Fort Worth, Texas. Company spokesman Brian Henry said it is common to ship body parts for medical education and research, but that it's rare for a shipment to be seized. Also, 40 to 60 heads might be overstating it a bit -- they were actually "four full cranial specimens and 40 pairs of temporal bone ear blocks."
