Biden Being Biden: Vice President Owes Big Money for Campaign Violations

It must be tough to operate in the shadow of the ever-cool Obama. Vice President Joe Biden is cut from a different cloth -- and cut sloppily -- where gaffes are to be expected and have become mostly endearing. "If there were no gaffes, there'd be no Joe," said Lindsey Graham. No big fuckin' deal, right? Except sometimes when you done goofed, there are consequences. This time for Biden, it's fines to the tune of $200k.

The New York Times reports:

The Biden for President campaign committee owes the Treasury more than $219,000 because it accepted excessive campaign contributions and understated the value of a trip taken on a private plane in the 2008 campaign, the Federal Election Commission said in a new report.

Auditors nailed the guy and his staff two years after the fact, revealing "sloppy bookkeeping" when it came to charter flights and donations, along with $870,000 in debts. Seriously, no big deal, the Biden camp maintains:

"Some repayment is commonplace after presidential campaign audits, and the repayment ordered here is relatively small," Ms. Alexander said. "Payment is due to the Treasury 30 days after the F.E.C. issues its formal ruling, and Biden for President will comply with that."

The fines total over four times the average American household income, though Biden's aides insist the infractions were "relatively minor." Sounds like the Joe Bien biopic just found its title.
