Warding off rheumatoid arthritis, and brain cells.
Yep, you kinda knew this already, but it's scientifically proven now: Drinking alcohol may help reduce the severity of rheumatoid arthritis. Not only that, it may cut your risk of getting arthritis in the first place! According to a study at the University of Sheffield in Britain,

"Patients who had drunk alcohol most frequently had symptoms that were less severe than those who had never drunk alcohol or only drunk it infrequently," said lead author James Maxwell, a rheumatologist at the Rotherham Foundation NHS Trust.

This is because, scientifically speaking, 1) booze is a painkiller and 2) booze is a painkiller. Until you wake up in the morning. Also, "any possible benefits from alcohol consumption in relation to rheumatism must be weighed against all the well-known health consequences of immoderate drinking." And: "What doesn't kill you will only make you stronger."
