Charles Rangel Will Stand Trial for Ethics Violations

charles-rangel.jpg
New York Rep. Charles Rangel -- at 80, the fourth oldest person in the House and the former chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee -- will stand trial on 13 violations of congressional ethics and federal law statutes, despite efforts by Rangel's lawyers to negotiate a last-minute deal, Yahoo News reports.

The charges include allegations that Rangel failed to report rental income on vacation property in the Dominican Republic and over the course of nearly a decade failed to report more than $600,000 on his financial disclosure statements.

The trial would probably begin in September, as Congress adjourns for August recess this week. Personally, this would not be the way we'd prefer to start our vacation.

As we wait to learn more, please enjoy this walk down memory lane -- a/k/a, a smattering of Rangel's Greatest Hits -- provided by our own Tom Robbins.
