Melissa Etheridge's Divorce Leads to Intense Online Poetry
It's not that you want to laugh at someone else's pain, but sometimes that's the reaction that comes. It's certainly the easiest way to respond; God forbid we confront our own demons. Often, the rawer the pain, the harder it is to know what the appropriate reaction is at all, even as a willing witness, the shoulder to cry on. When it's a stranger things get weirder. The Internet -- and the Art of Oversharing -- has, for better or worse, put large amounts of very personal sadness on display for all to see. Sometimes, it's nearly as awkward secondhand as it is in person. It is that way right now with musician Melissa Etheridge's divorce and her wife Tammy Lynn Michaels's subsequent blogging on the subject.
