Target Comes to Manhattan: A Sneak Peek

IMG_0389.JPG
The days of trekking from Brooklyn or Queens with your grand haul of budget cereal, tank tops, hand towels, and DVDs with that red bull's-eye logo on them are over. Manhattan finally has its own Target! We know you're as excited as we are. To celebrate this monumental event, we got you a first look inside Target's new Spanish Harlem store before its grand opening on Sunday.

The pristine 174,000-square-foot Target has a staff of about 400 employees. Of course we were immediately in awe of all the bargain merch, but what really surprised us was how well Target is catering to its new demographic. The one-level megastore, located on the second-floor East River Plaza, has an array of multicultural offerings like ethnic foods; Spanish-language movies, music, and greeting cards; and religious candles (awesome). This store also has a large area devoted to fresh produce, which is something only newly built Targets have.

In honor of the opening, husband-and-wife design duo Isabel and Ruben Toledo have introduced a featured clothing line specifically for Target, and there are also lines by Stephen Burrows and chef Marcus Samuelsson. Five percent of each product sold by these designers will benefit local nonprofits that each celebrity designer has chosen.
