David Johnson, Gov. Paterson Aide Surrenders to Authorities, to Be Arraigned Later Today
The Bronx District Attorney's office tells us that David Johnson, a former aide to Governor Paterson, is going to be arraigned later today in Bronx criminal court on charges stemming from an alleged domestic incident last October with an ex-girlfriend, identified as Sherr-una Booker.
Johnson (pictured at right) surrendered this morning to Bronx District Attorney Detective Investigators. He is expected to be charged with misdemeanor assault.
Johnson's fight with Booker became major news when allegations surfaced that Gov. Paterson had spoken to Booker in an effort to convince her not to press charges against her ex-beau. A report by Judith Kaye, a former chief judge, cleared Paterson of criminal liability.
Kaye's report, though, did not give the governor a total pass. She wrote that his calls to Booker were were "errors of judgment." Our own Tom Robbins wrote that the report refers to the governor's "puzzling behavior, faulty memory and repeated efforts to hush up the growing scandal."
