Kagan-ation: Senate Confirms Elena Kagan to Supreme Court, NYC Repped Hard

Following Justice So-Bro Sonia Sotomayor's appointment last summer, Elena Kagan has "thrown down" for Manhattan today.

Via the New York Daily News, by a vote in the senate of 63 to 37, Elena Kagan just became the fourth woman appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court, and the second Supreme Court appointee of Barack Obama's presidency, both of whom are woman, and both of whom are representing for New York City in addition another Liberty State lady, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and Justice Antonin Scalia. That's right, four -- count 'em, four -- justices on the Supreme Court from New York. Big ups, Kagan. For the record, New York's two senate votes -- Democrats Kristen Gillibrand, Kirsten and Chuck Schumer -- were both Yay votes. Via SCOTUS Blog, the five Republicans who voted for Kagan were Senators Susan Collins (Maine), Lindsey Graham (South Carolina), Judd Gregg (New Hampshire), Richard Lugar (Indiana), and Olympia Snowe (Maine). The sole Democrat to vote against Kagan was Senator Ben Nelson of Nebraska. Prick.

The process to get her there was filled with an epic regard for ridiculousness by the American Press, given the questions about her sexual orientation and the way her lack of record on "The Issues" became an issue in and of itself. Former New York governor Eliot Spitzer -- a college pal of Kagan's -- actually called this happening a few months ago at the 92nd Street Y, interestingly enough, which could give the more conspiratorial side of America more confidence in the fact the New York Jews basically run everything.

Either way, today's a great day for woman, and Jews, and New Yorkers, and America, because everyone actually got something done for once. Here's to her, a celebratory anthem from one of New York's finest:

Finally, what the hell. Here are the alternate headlines I didn't go with:

  • OKAYGEN!
  • Yaygen for Kagan.
  • Gay Day for Kagan.
  • The Kaganator Kaganates the Senate.
  • New York Jews Continue To Run Everything.
  • Come a-Kagan?
  • Manhattan Special.
