Sen. Lisa Murkowski Previously Called a Whore, Now Being Treated Like One
Lisa Murkowski, who's running in Alaska's Republican primary for their empty Senate seat, hasn't had a great election season. First she was called a whore by her opponent, and now, the whole of Alaskan government is treating her like one.
Murkowski previously announced her intentions to run on the Libertarian ticket if she lost in the primary to dirtbag Joe W. Miller. Why's Miller a dirtbag? Because while yes, Murkowski's plan is that of a very sore loser's, it doesn't necessarily means he needed to call her a whore, which he did. Via Politico, this happened on Friday:
Pretty gross, right? Right. Well now, Murkowski's being blocked by party politics -- that viciously stupid cycle that's the enemy of progress in American politics, because we all must be associated with a color, a side, and an ungainly animal -- as via Political Wire, Alaska's Libertarian party has denied her the ability to run as a Libertarian in the general election post-primary:
The Alaska Libertarian Party held an emergency meeting yesterday to discuss the contested Alaska U.S. Senate Republican primary results and Eric Dondero reports the five board members voted unanimously to deny Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R) their party's ballot line if she ultimately loses the primary.
"The meeting was contentious at first. Two board members who were clearly on the Tea Party friendly Joe Miller side were combative before they realized that the other three board members agreed with them on the essentials. At a number of points the meeting even digressed into name-calling. The 'F' bomb was even tossed around a number of times."
Besides being an asshole, Joe Miller is also a psychopath, and also being bankrolled by Sarah Palin. Their stance is classic: they want less Federal Intervention (so they can hunt Gays and Eskimos along with Moose) but more Federal Money, and Miller's entire campaign has Tea Party-ish leanings of "We'll secede on you, Washington, if you don't do what we want/leave us alone/give us more money!" No word on whether or not Murkowski's now going to run as an independent candidate, but you know, this will obviously continue to provide entertainment until November whether she does or doesn't, because the rest of America looks at Alaskan Politics the same way we view daytime television: as the tawdry, ultimately irrelevant distraction of melodramatic isolated weirdos with shit else to do but cause drama where nobody really cares.
