New York Times Declares Yankees Caps Season's Hottest Criminal Accessory

All the cool kids are wearing them.
The New York Times points out an odd and fascinating trend in crime fashion: More than 100 suspects or "persons of interest" in a crime in the city since 2000 have worn Yankees-branded clothing either during their crime or when they were arrested or arraigned.

In fact, "Dozens of men and women who have robbed, beaten, stabbed and shot at their fellow New Yorkers have done so while wearing Yankees caps or clothing."

But why? Aside from being easy to get, cheap, and popular, some speculate the trend is because criminals want to be like the Yankees, or perhaps think they already are: You know, powerful, wealthy, successful, unbound by "normal people" rules or social constraints... Or, people wear them because Jay-Z does.

Then again, the Times says,

Antisocial behavior has no dress code; people wear what they please when they please, whether they are going to see a movie or going to rob a bank.

Except in the case of this guy.

Anyway, you'd have to expect with so many people running around in Yankees merch in the city, this would eventually have to happen. And if all the criminals wear Yankees caps, how will the cops ever catch them?

Sadly -- or not -- only a dozen or so people committed crimes while wearing Mets apparel. Aw.
