Will Hurricane Earl "Smoosh" With Jersey Shore?
Labor Day weekend isn't looking to be the last-hurray-of-summer-sunshine affair its supposed to be, with Hurricane Earl ready to very literally rain on the plans of anyone about to have one last blowout before calling the summer off. And it looks like the Jersey Shore -- which had its first post-Jersey Shore summer in 2010 -- might be right in its Eastern Seaboard path.

Via the WNYC Newsroom, it looks like it may be a "smoosh" with Hurricane Earl for the Jersey Shore, and not the full-on pounding once expected:
The Jersey shore is under a Tropical Storm Warning, while areas further inland are under a Tropical Storm Watch. New York City will most likely experience the storm tomorrow afternoon with 40 mile an hour winds.
As for the Hamptons? They're getting hit, too, but the worst of it should be gone by Saturday morning. But everyone trying to get all the way out to, say, Montauk tomorrow afternoon by train? Via the Wall Street Journal's Metropolis blog, try again.
The Long Island Rail Road moved to suspend service on its two East End branches starting Friday morning. The service suspension means that thousands of New Yorkers who ride the Montauk and Ronkonkoma Branch trains to the Hamptons and the North Fork will have to find other ways to the beach for Labor Day weekend. Service will be suspended east of Speonk on the Montauk Branch and east of Ronkonkoma on the Ronkonkoma Branch.
And via Moriches Daily, which has a more comprehensive breakdown of service disruptions, it looks like Fire Island is S.O.L. too:
The Fire Island Ferry Service will be suspended starting Friday afternoon at 3pm and will not resume until Saturday morning.
Ah, so Guidos, Gays, and Other Assorted Hamptonites: You must now suffer the pain of not getting to get out of town during the Summer, like the majority of New Yorkers who privately maybe seethe with envy at you at all other times. Sucks to be all of us!
