Your "Wait, What?" of the Day: NY1 Can't See Their Heads in Front of Their Own Faces

Blockquotes! Those magical parts of blog posts bloggers use to fill space with information they're too laze to re-purpose themselves: They happen. And sometimes, when bloggers like this one throw a paragraph in blockquotes, they're too blithe to notice the intensely "WTF" part of them they might've glazed over. In this case, it's NY1's education reporter Lindsay Christ, who -- while at the scene of the MetroNorth fire currently being extinguished -- delivered a money "WTF" moment for all to enjoy.

Check out this NY1 blockquote we used from an earlier piece on the fire:

Large plumes of black smoke rose into the sky and affected the surrounding area. NY1's Education reporter Lindsey Christ, who was in the area as the fire started, said the smoke was so thick she could not see her own head in front of her own face. A resident of the neighborhood told Christ he was sitting under the bridge and heard a huge explosion before the fire began.

And as pointed out by writer Alexander Basek, WTF?

Large plumes of black smoke rose into the sky and affected the surrounding area. NY1's Education reporter Lindsey Christ, who was in the area as the fire started, said the smoke was so thick she could not see her own head in front of her own face. A resident of the neighborhood told Christ he was sitting under the bridge and heard a huge explosion before the fire began.

That...is pretty thick smoke. And also, as far as copy edits (and glazed-over copy edits) go, also fairly thick. A quick check to the NY1 piece reveals the change:

NY1's Education reporter Lindsey Christ, who was in the area as the fire started, said the smoke was so thick she could not see her own hand in front of her own face.

But still, now you know: (A) the MetroNorth smoke fire is pretty thick and (B) so are some bloggers on Mondays, to often comical effect. It happens.
