Vatican Declares Homer Simpson a "True Catholic"

No, this is not the Onion. Apparently, the Pope isn't relatable enough these days. Instead, if you're seeking a Catholic role model, you should look to a beer-guzzling, doughnut-pounding, Ned-Flanders-torturing "everyman." Yes. L'Osservatore Romano, the Vatican's newspaper, has published an article titled "Homer and Bart Are Catholics." Because Catholics are...everywhere?

As proof:

The family "recites prayers before meals and, in their own peculiar way, believes in the life thereafter."

"Few people know it, and he does everything he can to hide it, but it is true: Homer J Simpson is a Catholic," insists L'Osservatore Romano.

Also, in one episode, he converted. Of course, in another, he sold his soul to the devil for a doughnut.

Anyway, it's an interesting recruitment tactic -- if Homer is a Catholic, pretty much anyone can be, right? Then again, would you want to be in a club (a/k/a religion) that had Homer Simpson as a member? Or is Homer a more favorable option than, say, Mother Teresa? After all, the Empire State Building lit up for him -- not her.

Here he is, "evolving." How Catholic of him!
