Rescued Chilean miner Edison Peña, noted New York hater, did not win the ING New York City Marathon. That honor went to Gebre Gebremariam of Ethiopia in his first time at the competition. On the women's side, Edna Kiplagat of Kenya finished victorious. The favorite going into the race and world-record holder, Haile Gebrselassie, bailed at mile 16, according to NBC Sports, which also notes that Gebremariam is the first NYC Marathon virgin to win since 1983.
