New York City Has a New Subway Hero, Sort of
Just in time for the holiday season, here's a courageous tale to warm you to your fleece-lined boots, via the New York Daily News. Carlos Flores of East Harlem was waiting for the downtown 6 train at East 103rd this Sunday when he saw that a man had fallen onto the tracks. He quickly checked the platform sign saying the next train would arrive in 3 minutes, jumped to the track, grabbed the man (who turned out to be 220 pounds and 6 feet tall) and walked him to the platform's edge. Then he saw the train coming. 
Fortunately, the daring rescue attempt did not turn tragic, as a customer had notified the station agent, who told the conductor, who halted the train.
Inspired not only by the will to save another, Flores had also wanted to make sure he wouldn't lose his shot at overtime.
"I was thinking, if he gets hit I can't go to work. It's Sunday. I can't miss out. It's a time-and-a-half day," Flores told the Daily News.
Of course, if you get hit by a train, you won't get to work at all. Don't jump in the tracks, people! Still...points for bravery.
Flores caught the halted 6 train to his job downtown, where we hope he made his overtime.
