Ashton Kutcher Fights Human Sex Trafficking in Iowa Newspaper

Did you know that Ashton Kutcher is the co-founder of the Demi and Ashton Foundation, which works to stamp out child sex slavery? Did you know that Ashton Kutcher is from Iowa? Both facts become glaringly obvious in the popular Twitter user and occasional actor's op-ed today in the Des Moines Register, written in tandem with one-time Iowa attorney general Bonnie Campbell. Most surprising, though, is that apart from being intensely Iowa-specific, Kutcher and Campbell's article is thorough, heartfelt and full of hard facts. We wonder: will Ashton Kutcher, he of Punk'd and Dude, Where My Car? fame, someday be a politician?

It's not out of the question! Seriously, read this (and suspend cynicism about a ghostwriter):

Last month, we traveled to Egypt to participate in the Luxor International Forum to End Human Trafficking. It was fitting for government leaders, CEOs and activists to confront the horrors of modern slavery amidst the grand pyramids and monuments of the ancient world. The unfortunate reality is that these incredible structures, although awe-inspiring, were built by slaves.
...
More than 4,500 years ago, hundreds of thousands of people came together in Egypt, many by force, to build a tomb for a dead king. Their work stands today as a mute testament to human potential. Almost 150 years ago, 75,000 Iowans left home to fight not for a king, but for an idea - that all humans deserve to be free. As we begin the observance of Slavery and Trafficking Awareness Month, we add our voices to that earlier call. We invite you to join us in making their battle cry of freedom heard once more.

Also included are legitimately frightening figures about an under-addressed issue. You can read the rest of Ashton Kutcher's piece about human trafficking at the Des Moines Register. (That never stops sounding weird.)
