NYC Cab Explodes in Snowstorm [Video]

• Very strange

• One of the crash sensors melted away and shorted, which caused all of the airbags to deploy simultaneously. Happens fairly often in car fires, more common is one or two of the deploying charges cooking off as the bag module burns away.

• Doesn't sound like a question for Yahoo. Sounds more like someone needs to go back to journalism school. Lame.

• NYC cab drivers (and most cabbies, really) aren't exactly known for their safety records. Every time I take a cab in NY I feel like I'm playing Grand Theft Auto.

• in fairness, i'd be scared to ride in or drive pretty much any motorized vehicle in a snowstorm, with the possible exception of a motorized bar stool. as for why cars explode in snowstorms...that sounds like a yahoo answers question to me!

• I agree Bob... cabbies are trying to make a living just like everyone else. To say that people will fear for their lives if they take a cab in the snow is completely ridiculous and it defames those who work for the cab system!

• This is on my block. The car horn woke me up because it was stuck blaring for about 10 minutes. Then I heard the sirens coming. Scary!

• I understand this may be a blog post, but WHY is a cab likely to explode in a snowstorm? If you're going to tell the entire city not to take cabs during these conditions, you need to give an explanation.
