Coney Island in Winter: Our Own Antarctica

ConeyFoldInCover.JPG
Things may be looking grim for Coney Island's future. Old haunts like Ruby's have poured their last beer, and although Central Amusements International and Sodexo plan to make the neighborhood into a 'year-round' destination, it's worth mentioning it's a pretty magical one right now.

Coney Island and Brighton Beach resemble Antarctica: a blanket of snow covers the beach, with waves lapping at the white blanket. Yesterday, old couples wrapped in furs were sunning themselves in the winter sun, while children were building snowmen where they'll be building sandcastles in a few months.
