Demolition of 35 Cooper Square Approved
Just as everyone was preparing to get all mushy-gushy and celebrate with a toast and a kiss because love is in the air and whatnot, the city had to go and bring down the house, literally. The city has approved the demolition of 35 Cooper Square, just a few hours after a permit was filed, reports our East Village blogger pal EV Grieve.

When we last checked in, Asian Pub had just closed, but it was still unclear when or how soon the building would be demolished. Early this morning, however, demolition permits were filed and approved shortly after.
Rumors are still circulating what will replace the historic landmark, although the lack of height restraint in the area could certainly entertain the idea of another hotel. Nothing quite like an East Village landmark, however. Cooper Square will surely miss its presence as one of the most historically significant buildings left standing in the area.
