Egypt Protests Continue for 12th Day; NYC May Double Number of Failing Schools (Weekend Links)

• Morning, sunshines! Today will be relatively warm with a high of 38, but we can't seem to get away from that wintry mix.
• Protests in Egypt are entering their 12th day today after yesterday's "Day of Departure." Al Jazeera reports that the morning has been peaceful, although the military has increased its presence among the 10,000 or so demonstrators in Cairo's Tahrir Square. Egypt's new vice president, Omar Suleiman, is said to be discussing Mubarak's possible ouster with top military brass. [Al Jazeera, NYT]
• The number of schools in NYC that fail to meet federal guidelines for student progress could more than double this year, from 321 to more than 660. The increase is related to new standards on New York state reading and math exams. [NYP]
