Google Seems to Think Abortion Is Murder

Screen shot 2011-02-25 at 9.13.51 AM.png
Well, what about that. If you google "murder," this is what comes up. Note the second entry. Cory Doctorow at Boing Boing reports that this isn't actually Google's doing, however -- "Someone has spoofed Google into making the Wikipedia entry for 'abortion' into the second result in searches for 'murder.'"

So, will this last longer than the Soho billboard? Doubtful. In the meantime, read all you ever wanted to know about Googlebombing -- the practice of gaming Google search results -- here.

Googlebombers turn "Abortion" into second result for "Murder" [Boing Boing]

Abortion: Expulsion of a non-viable (non-viable meaning: not capable of living, growing, and developing as an embryo, seed, or plant) fetus during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. People say abortion is the killing of the soul, when really it deals with the physical body and its life, destroying the physical body of the LIVING fetus and not of the soul. Abortion like war, is a failure of society to come to grips with a much more fundamental problem. I understand if you were sexually assulted but either way its still murder because you're killing the living fetus. It may not look like a human being yet, but that does not mean it doesnt have a heartbeat.

I'm going to start a pro-death movement. No choice, forced abortions!

I suppose to different societies the moral dictates that would allow someone to differentiate between murder and killing are relative. For example, in New York we have a law against harming animals/pets called Buddy's Law. We can legally kill/murder a pre-born baby but it is illegal to hit an animal (I certainly don't condone harming animals but it highlights the disparity in our view of the sanctity of any life . Still other cultures kill/murder dogs for food. Is there no moral absolute?

The existence of a moral absolute depends on your ethical presuppositions. I question whether or not one can be rational and accept the proposition of moral relativism. Late term abortion highlights versus __________ will always highlight this.

It may interest folks to know that the surgery center now has a premium add for the search term "late term abortion." Google is making money off killing. Awesome! Marketing is great...

Abortion is not muder. It's a women's choice.

I would agree with you. It's a woman's personal choice to kill something.

That *something* is not capable of life without the mother. It is taking nutrients away from her, it is increasing her risk of developing diabetes, it is decreasing the health of future children the woman may WANT to have.

She is not killing an autonomous individual. Medically a fetus is no better than a tapeworm. If a woman can be allowed to have anti-tapeworm treatments, she should be allowed an abortion.

I appreciate that you responded to the prenatal discussion. In all cases, babies are far from autonomous postnatal. Google "late term abortion" and read the woman's story about her late term abortion. It's in the top 5 organic results. I can assure you she didn't view her fetus as nothing more than a tapeworm.

Right now, under the law it is indeed both a woman's choice and murder. Our laws simply allow her to own the moral implications of the murder.

Abortion is NOT murder. It is a medical procedure no different from any other, and a woman should be able to do it at any time. It is a private matter, and the government should not be involved.

Hitler's euthanasia of people with retardation is logically not that much different to the argument that a late term fetus has not reach a gestation level to where it can survive on it's own. There are levels of survivability prenatal and postnatal. I don't understand how one can use the same logic prenatal versus postnatal when deciding if it's OK to kill. A 23 year old's retardation that has taken their parents full attention to keep them alive follows the same prenatal "gestation"argument. Why can't parents decide to euthanize their child at age 7?

Late term abortion is killing. There are different types of killing. Justifiable homicide, killing criminals, and war are all examples of killing. The word abortion means one wants to abort or stop the continuation of something. In this case, I think all can agree that it is killing. Justifiable - maybe or maybe no? It's interesting that many people support the death penalty and killing a late term fetus/baby (whatever you want to call it/him/her.) The 3rd organic Google search item was a story about a girl's late term abortion. It was fascinating to me that she spoke of her baby in very personal ways. This is in contrast to the cold terms one normally hears about abortion such as fetus, embryo, etc... Can a fetus be a baby before a full breach? If so maybe it's murder at that point. I don't know. I can't have a fetus. I can only make one (I think.)

I just typed "late term abortion" into Google. Wikipedia gets the #1 organic result spot. The pay per click ads on the right side are abortion center ads. Way to go Google! I didn't research what the surgery center's bid for the click spot/action, but that's why they are rich. It could be said that Google is aiding and abetting murder!!! Throw in some localization SEO and you can kill your just-about-to-be-born baby!!!! This is exciting progress for society. The question is does kill = murder in this case.
