Hosni Mubarak Will Not Run For Reelection

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has announced he will not to seek reelection. This follows reports that President Obama suggested the leader, who has been the subject of protests across Egypt, step down.

Speaking on Egyptian state television, President Mubarak said it was time for "someone to be elected by the people in the coming election."

He also spoke of the protests themselves, saying some people have "wreaked havoc." He also vowed to punish looters who have struck during the protests. Mubarak announced that he would not leave Egypt, and that he would work with parliament and both houses to "ensure a peaceful transition of power."
