Hosni Mubarak, president of Egypt for three decades, "has waived the office of president," said Vice President Omar Suleiman in a speech that lasted less than a minute at 6:00 p.m. local Egypt time today, Friday February 11, 2011, eighteen days after massive protests started in Cairo. The armed forces will be in charge of the country's affairs. Al Jazeera English is liveblogging the action, but the live video of thousands celebrating in the streets must be seen to be believed.
