President Obama addressed the resignation of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak at the White House this afternoon. He lauded the peaceful nature of the protests, as well as the patriotism and restraint of Egypt's military. "The people of Egypt have spoken," he said, "Egypt will never be the same."

He mentioned that Mubarak's resignation was just the beginning of a long process, but that he is confident that the people of Egypt can ensure its success. "Nothing less than genuine democracy will carry the day," he said.

"Moral force of non-violence, not terrorism, not mindless killing...has bent the arch of history towards justice once more."

President Obama also mentioned the impact of Christian and Muslim protesters working together towards one goal.

He asserted that the United States would continue to be a friend during this transition, and that assistance will be provided.
