Seven men alleged to be narcotics and weapons traffickers in West Africa and Eastern Europe have been indicted in federal court in Manhattan for a plot to move tons of heroin and cocaine from Afghanistan to the United States, and using the proceeds to purchase weapons for use by the Taliban, federal prosecutors said today.

The case, being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District, evolved from a sting operation conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration in Benin, Ghana, Romania and the Ukraine. Two of the defendents are U.S. citizens. The press release is here.
