State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley is resigning from his position under pressure from White House officials, CNN reports. Earlier this week, Crowley described the United States' treatment of soldier and WikiLeaks leaker Bradley Manning as "ridiculous and counterproductive and stupid." Manning is being held in solitary confinement in a maximum security military jail in Virginia; his reported conditions are such that the U.N. has launched an investigation into whether or not they constitute torture.
