This Week in the Voice: Kicking Back With the Black Hebrew Israelites

13@200.jpg
This week in the Voice, Steven Thrasher enters the wild world of Black Hebrew Israelites, or as they are more commonly referred, "those guys who yell at everybody on the street." They tell him they "are the Ambassadors of Christ," but others have differing views. One of their ex-girlfriends, for example, dismissively says, "These guys just want to move in with women and eat their food and live rent-free." Differing views, indeed.

Also, be sure to check out the Spring Arts Guide. There are erudite reading picks, fashion with Glamourai Kelly Framel, and a helpful tofu guide. If you think the curd mush is just "fit for vegetarians and dyspeptics," blur your eyes and pretend you're reading about chicken.

Robert Sietsema tests the altitude in Bushwick Heights at Sol de Quito, an Ecuadorean haunt that provides customers with "a huge and inexpensive meal." His recommendation for newbies? The massive "mountain climber."

J. Hoberman watches the "grave, beautiful" Le Quattro Volte, "one of the wiggiest nature documentaries -- or almost-documentaries -- ever made."

Michael Musto tries to find out why Broadway keeps pumping out "rehashed, processed, micromanaged pieces of work with familiar themes, songs, and faces aiming for your purse strings."

Jesse Serwer profiles the lanky Wiz Khalifa and finds the "Black & Yellow" rapper to be more than just a Pittsburgh rehash of Snoop Dogg.

And don't forget to check out News, Music, Art, Theater, Film, Books, Dance, Restaurants, Free Will Astrology, and more!
