Former beauty queen speaks out

A finalist of the Miss Dominican Republic beauty pageant is demanding an investigation of the contest, after rumors began circulating that the winner paid $100,000 for the crown, the Spanish-language daily reports.

"I want to know the truth. I want justice," said 22-year-old Evi Siksos. "I have sacrificed a lot of time and money for this. And I'm not just speaking on my behalf or that of my colleagues, but also for my country."

"We want answers," said Jacob Oresky, Siksos' lawyer.

Siksos said that media reports about corruption in the contest -- which qualifies the winner for the Miss Universe competition -- have been very disappointing. Reports of alleged malfeasance began circulating last week, according to the paper.

"I speak five languages, and I want to demonstrate that, where I live, there aren't only pretty girls, but smart ones as well," Siksos, who's been preparing for this contest since childhood, told the paper.

The organization has denied any wrongdoing, and has threatened to sue the former contestants who have publicly complained.
