Bronx Zoo Cobra Name Contest Disappointing So Far

​It's time for us to get serious about naming the Bronx Zoo cobra. The submissions are rolling in and they're terrible. The Houdini theme is popular (get it -- because she escaped out of her cage): "Bronxdini," "Zoodini," etc. Jesus -- Bronxdini?

"Twitter" is also an early front-runner.

Here are some other real possibilities, courtesy of the brain trust in the Daily News' comments section:

• "I like the name Loosey sort of like Lucy - but she was loose - get it!!! :)"
• "My name pick for the female Egyptian cobra snake is CLEOPATRA in memory of the great LIZ TAYLOR"
• An asshole by the name of "TrippSmith" wants to name the snake after his wife
• "RUNAWAY SLIDE"
• "How a bout Dick Cheney or Mike Bloomberg... They're both real Snakes..."
• "E. Lou Sieve"

As you can see, this is getting dire. The poor snake could be stuck with "Loosey" or "Twitter" as a name. Cleopatra isn't a bad option, as I pointed out yesterday, but it's nothing groundbreaking.

With your help, we can get this situation under control. We have until 1 p.m. tomorrow to submit our names. Don't feel silly, I'm submitting one too! My entry: Hatshepsut, the pharaoh who ruled longer than any other woman in ancient Egypt. It has a 0.0000001% chance of winning but at least there will be one slightly cool and erudite name in the mix. And you could call her Hattie for short.
